Use it to find friends on the Wii, DS, etc.

It's still in the early stages, so I could use suggestions.

Blog: Virgina Tech

Looking back at the very recent tragic event in Virginia, I really feel a need to put my thoughts onto paper, metaphorically speaking. I live in Maryland, so this was a very locally shocking event for me, and I also had a direct relation with a victim, which I do not wish to discuss at this time...

As a gaming blogger, it makes me sick that people such as Dr.Phil and Jack Thompson, two of the least professionally recognized "experts" in the world, would take this opportunity to make a personal gain. Maybe if they were actually looking at evidence, or even stating that they were speculating, I wouldn't be so disappointed, but this is truly...pathetic.

Before any information was even released on the killer, Jack Thompson said he was a gamer. Then Dr.Phil felt that he should get a word in too, because it would make him look like some sort of hero activist...

Of course the killer played violent video games. The video game industry is one of the biggest in the world, so its safe to say no matter who shoots who, the person will always be able to be linked to gaming. Millions of people play video games. Billions have played at some point or another. What percentile of them turn out to be killers? Is there really any correlation?

Hell no. That is one of the biggest loads of bull I have ever heard in my life.

It seems that very few media outlets are focusing on the killer's writing (at least they weren't until recently). Now, I'm not saying that violent books or imagery at all influence a person to kill. I'm actually saying that the way a person creatively expresses himselfmay be the key. No one will ever be able to justify cold blooded murder. Ever. However, if a guy plays violent video games, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. If a guy watches lots of porn, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. If a guy reads very hostile text, with insanely violent imagery...you still have nothing to worry about.

Now when you, yourself, write something filled with blood, gore, and hidden desires to murder...then you have a problem. Great writers such as Frank Miller can pull it off. Why? Because he is a human being. He would never recreate his comics.

This individual's writing, a play, was more of a thought organizer. It was filled with things that interested him, not because of entertainment value, but because he truly desired such things to happen.

When will society grow out of this? I hate to say it but people like these are quite self centered. I have gone through a lot in my life, and I don't whine about it. I move on. I know that other people in the world have it much worse than me. The fact that they can live through it gives me strength. If people like Elie Wiesel can survive the holocaust, and then be smart enough to be able to talk about it and learn from it, and continue to live his life, then I can look past my petty problems and be happy. It disgusts me when people complain about life already, but when people pull shit like this...horrible.

So he has no friends? Who's fault is that really? It's either his for subconciously wanting to be a loner, or its rooted in some sort of personal problems. If you are true to yourself, no matter what you look like, no matter what your interests, you can continue to live. Everything you do has to be about you, and the ones you care about. If there's no one you care about, nuts to them, live your life to the fullest. If he truly was just not sociable and it was not his fault, then there was obviously a much deeper roted problem in perhaps his family, or his outlook on life. I apologize if you do not agree with me, but that's the way I see it. People in Darfur are being massacred, soldiers and civilians in Iraq are being killed in a senseless war, and people all around the world are living in horrible conditions, barely living, and holding on. There is not a thing in the world that could justify this barbarous act.

My heart goes out to the departed victims, the survivors, and the families involved in this ordeal. They are the true victims of society. I will pray for them. I hope you will too.

Top 10 Wii Games

WARNING: This article is based on my opinion on the games that I have played thus far in the Wii's lifespan. If you disagree with something on this list...that's cool. It's also opinion.

These are the top 10 games making the Wii worth owning right now:

10) Medal of Honor: Vanguard - I don't care what the fad is on the quality of this game, its good. The graphics are not horrible in comparison to other games in the same league for the Wii, and the gameplay is fun. It even has a fixed reticule mode! The game is a bit on the short side but still worth owning. Multiplayer is also a point of merit in this installment.

9) Madden '07 - This is one of the biggest selling points of the Wii, and is also the Wii's biggst weapon in convincing the skeptics of Nintendo's power this generation. The game features intuitive controls such as the ability to juke, stiff-arm, and tackle using motion sensitivity. The fact that EA probably did not put as much effort into this game as they could have means that we can expect '08 to be even better, due to Wii's outstanding sales.

8) Excite Truck - What I consider to be the Wii's big sleeper hit, Excite Truck puts a spin on the classic Excite Bike and makes it into a big, muddy mess. The fact that these giant machines are going so fast really adds even more to the sense of speed, and its interesting to see why Nintendo chose to use trucks. (Also, you can use your own mp3's for the soundtrack! Coheed and Cambria FTW on mine)

7) Sonic and the Secret Rings - Speaking of sense of speed, this game is the first good console Sonic game I've played in several years. Taking the old school "one way only" approach to Sonic in addition to an Excite Truck type control scheme makes for a very frustrating, but oh-so-delicious experience. After all, reflexes and level memorization is something we don't see too often these days.

6) Prince of Persia: Rival Swords - Oh yeah...I forgot Ubisoft could make good games for a second. This game is a port of the PS2 Prince of Persia: Two Thrones and while nothing other than controls is worth noting as a new feature here, it's still great. If you've never played a Prince of Persia game, this is a great place to start, and if you like the series already, this is a wonderful place to pick back up. Believe it or not this is my favorite installment of the series so far.

5) Dragonball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 - Dragonball Z games are always fun. Repetitive...maybe...but fun. Players here will go into a very long story mode and various other new modes and purchase moves and fight their friends and compete in tournaments and combine capsules and hell, listen to the japanese voiceovers. Hell yes. There's so much to do in this game, and it just keeps me coming back for more.

4) Godfather: Blackhand Edition - A surprise hit, this game is a mix of GTA and 007. You go on missions and do whatever the hell you want in between. Some say this game is better than GTA...I don't know about that...but it IS a good game. While gameplay becomes repetitive with time, it's still one of the best experiences you can have on the Wii, and it's the best version of this game available.

3) Wii Sports - So let’s think back…when was the last time you got a game with your gaming console for free? That’s right. Super Mario World. It is still one of the highest acclaimed games of all time, and with good reason. Does Wii Sports live up to this standard? Without a doubt, Wii Sports will be remembered in gaming history. With the release of arguably the most innovative gaming system ever created, comes the release of arguably one of the most innovative games ever created as well. Not only that, but this game shows off the Wii remote’s capabilities while including a total of 5 games to play, and a whole lot of ways to play them. This game boasts a Fitness Mode and Training mode to boot, to keep you busy for a really long time. This game is not traditional. This game is awesome.

2) The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - The Legend of Zelda series is famous for not only its quality, but its unpredictable style. Just when you think Nintendo has found a formula for the game that seems to work flawlessly, they surprise you. This has been happening for decades. After the release of “Legend of Zelda” for the NES, soon-to-be fans were outright flabbergasted. The original masterpiece was enormous for its time, not to mention it was the first game of its kind that truly featured exploration. Players were dropped in an entire world without direction or clues, and off on their own to unlock new ways to advance further in the “story”. Expecting much of the same, the sequel was released. This was a side-scrolling game that sparked controversy amongst fans as to the quality of the game. Some enjoyed it, most hated it. This would happen time and time again, with the release of Ocarina of Time, arguably the greatest game ever to grace the planet being followed by its direct sequel, Majora’s Mask. This sparked a controversy of the same exact nature. This would also happen AGAIN with Wind Waker’s unique cel-shaded style. (CD-I games were intentionally ignored)…For what is supposedly “The last traditional Zelda game”, Nintendo has brought our generically named hero back to his roots. This time, Link will be making his debut on the Nintendo Wii in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. It's amazing.

1) Super Paper Mario - Super Paper Mario brings gamers back to their roots with old school Mario platforming. This game takes place in the Paper Mario universe, and even brings with it some RPG elements from the former games, however, it is action oriented, and it brings with it a few intuitive features. The Wii remote adds to the game and the pseudo paper style adds even more. Originally a Gamecube project, Super Paper Mario was left in the dark for a very long time, but as we approach the release, gamers are clamoring for it more and more...by now we all know it's good. But how good is it? Extraordinarily good. Perhaps one of the best games I have ever played.
